How to read the diagrams

  • Each row is a shape, each column a step – from left to right, notes are only added.
  • The number in a dot is the degree: 1 = root, 3 = third, 5 = fifth (♭3 in minor).
  • Filled = chord tone, ring = other note, amber = root. The light band in the chord is the barre.
  • × = don't play this string (chord only). Dots above the nut = open string.
  • The number to the left of a diagram is the fret of its top row.
